Canberra Flora and Fauna Group
“Nature’s Colours” is a group exhibition showcasing the talents of nine Canberra-based artists united by
a passion for the natural world. Presented at the historic Old Barn Gallery in Pialligo, the exhibition runs
across three weekends: 11-13, 18-20 and 25-27 September.
Working with a wide variety of mediums, from pastels to oils, the artists draw inspiration from nature’s
diverse and colourful plant and animal life: flowers, fruit, insects, mammals and more. Many works reflect
the artists’ own experiences with their subjects while travelling across all 5 continents. African and
Australian animals feature prominently.
Their work reflects both a deep appreciation of nature and their concern for its conservation. “We hope
our artwork inspires others to engage in conservation efforts. Even what we choose to plant in our
gardens can contribute to maintaining healthy urban and suburban habitats for wildlife.” says group
spokesperson, Nyree Mason. Which makes this exhibition a perfect stop on a visit to ‘Picturesque
Pialligo’.
Some of the artists will be present daily, and are more than happy to chat with visitors about their artwork
over a cup of tea or coffee.
